Robert Blue & Susan Blue Galloway

Robert Blue and Susan B. Galloway, a husband and wife team, work in a studio just outside Woodstock, Illinois. They were married in 1982, and began building their studio and gallery in 1983. The studio became operational in 1984, and the gallery opened two years later in Franklinville, Illinois. Their love of pottery is evident in their work. Their love for each other brought Shannon (1988) and Alex (1990) into the world and a family was created. Bob has been working with clay since 1967 and Susan since 1969. As well as working in the studio part time Susan has been teaching pottery at McHenry County College since 1976.

Bob and Susan now work exclusively in stoneware clay for production pottery. Their method of choice is a reduction fired kiln using natural gas. This firing method by nature creates some slight variation in color. As in all hand made pottery produced on the wheel and reduced in a gas kiln there should be a tolerance for slight variation from order to order. They have however both been potting for over 30 years and are very consistent in their methods.

The warmth and beauty crafted into each pot will touch those who use it. Its artistry functions best through daily use, through intimate acquaintance."

All functional ware has been tested for safe use in a dishwasher, or microwave, and can be used in the oven with proper care, but is not recommended for direct heat (stovetop). Each piece is lead free, non-toxic, unique, and hand crafted. Vases hold water without leaking but may sweat if water is not room temperature. With proper care, stoneware will last for thousands of years.

Glazes

SW - Soft White. A warm soft white, creamy in texture, sometimes has a hint of a very light cinnamon look. The accent colors on the soft white are teal and toast with streaks of black and watermelon to create a stylized southwest landscape appearance.

OSB - Oil Spot Blue. A deep blue with navy and black speckles resembling an oil spotted effect. Accented with a snowy white with blue speckled stripe and rim, as well as a dark navy stripe.
